Intern Perspectives: Khrystyna Bodnarchuk, AMCP Foundation/Pfizer, Inc. Managed Care Internship
Reflecting back on my AMCP Foundation/Pfizer Inc. internship in the field of managed care pharmacy, I can truly say that this opportunity opened doors for me that I will always be grateful for. Not only did I have the privilege of meeting and connecting with an interprofessional team, but I also had the chance to immerse myself in what managed care really is. When I began the program, I had only a surface-level understanding of the field; by the end, I felt confident and knowledgeable, equipped with insights that will continue to shape my career path.
During the course of the internship, I was able to engage in a variety of meaningful projects that gave me a well-rounded view of managed care. My role involved participating in topic discussions, contributing to webinars and educational series, and collaborating on team initiatives. One of the most impactful aspects was completing a capstone research project, which allowed me to bring together the lessons I was learning in real time and apply them to an area of practical significance.
Through this experience, I was able to see firsthand how managed care and the pharmaceutical industry intersect, and how decisions made at the system level have profound effects on patient populations. Whether it was optimizing therapies, evaluating cost-effectiveness, or researching unmet medical needs, I gained a deep appreciation for the role managed care plays in advancing both individual and public health.
This internship also opened my eyes to key areas of managed care and industry that I had not previously known existed. I was introduced to the complexities of formulary management, the importance of health equity, and the collaborative decision-making processes that ensure patients have access to safe, effective, and affordable therapies. These insights not only broadened my knowledge but also fueled my passion for pursuing a career where I can make a meaningful impact on population health outcomes.
I am especially grateful for the mentorship and guidance I received throughout this journey. A heartfelt thank you to my preceptors, Heather H. Wing and Casey W. Edward, for their time, patience, and dedication in helping me grow both professionally and personally. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Anne Fentress and Ebony Clay for the support they provided during my internship. Their encouragement made this experience even more rewarding.
Looking back, I feel proud of what I accomplished and deeply appreciative of the opportunities this internship has given me. The knowledge, skills, and connections I gained have solidified my interest in managed care and will serve as a strong foundation for my future in pharmacy.
