I have always had a strong passion for helping others and STEM. Coming from a community where health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer are prevalent, I strive to improve health outcomes for these patients through education and optimal medication therapy management.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
As someone who is passionate about addressing health disparities, I believe that this internship will allow me to contribute to the ongoing pursuit of alleviating these disparities. I hope that I am able to gain the knowledge to further address these disparities as I continue in my journey as a pharmacist.

I love to sing!

What are your plans after pharmacy school?
After pharmacy school, I hope to go into the pharmaceutical industry, working in the field of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) in order to improve access to therapies for patients and overall health outcomes.

Why did you choose to go to pharmacy school?
I have a passion for healthcare, particularly in the science of drug delivery. Pharmacy school offers me a comprehensive platform to explore not only the treatment options available for diseases, but also to understand how as a healthcare provider, I can effectively administer these treatments to patients. Pharmacy school allows me to acquire a versatile skill set and knowledge base that can be applied to the community, institutional, managed care, and industry setting. Among these areas, I find the intersection between Managed Care and Industry most interesting. I envision myself as a part of a dynamic team, facilitating bringing treatments to market while ensuring patient access.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
I have a strong interest in the field of Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) as it offers a unique opportunity to explore and ensure the effectiveness and accessibility of pharmaceutical interventions for patients. Through this internship opportunity, I hope to learn about the communication and methodologies of outcomes research, understanding the intricacies of study designs and execution. Moreover, I look forward to establishing connections with professionals from AbbVie, AMCP, as well as my fellow interns. Opting for the AMCP Foundation internship aligns perfectly with my goals, as it not only allows me to deepen my understanding of HEOR research but also enables me to build a robust network that will accompany and support me throughout my journey in pharmacy school and beyond.

I can do really long planks. (10 minutes is my max!)
At what job would you be terrible?
I would be a terrible sports referee since I cannot ever pay attention during any games, and don’t remember any of the rules.

Why did you choose to go to pharmacy school?
Growing up in a family of physicians, I was inspired by the dedication of healthcare workers at my mother’s hospital. This exposure sparked my desire to join the healthcare field. My fascination with science, particularly chemistry, deepened through education and academic competitions. Pharmacy combines my passions for chemistry and healthcare, allowing me to engage in research and patient care. Additionally, having witnessed the financial challenges of affording medication in my country and in underserved communities, I am committed to working towards improving accessibility and affordability of medications.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
This internship is a pivotal step in my mission to address healthcare challenges. At Meijer, I faced limitations in assisting patients due to the retail setting. Therefore, my goal is to tackle these issues at a systemic level through managed care. Working with oncology will present me a unique chance to apply managed care pharmacy principles for optimal healthcare outcomes in this therapeutic area with identified gaps in value-based management.
Exposure in the P&T case competition, and independent research solidified my commitment. The internship will further offer me real-life experiences in long-term projects, allowing me to build transferable skills and apply advanced technical knowledge, bridging clinical expertise with systemic solutions. My ultimate goal is a managed care residency, leading to a transition into the pharmaceutical industry to shape policies positively impacting patient care.
What is your hidden talent?
I can sing and dance along to any song, even those I have never heard before. I am pretty good at recognizing the beats.
At what job would you be terrible?
I would not be a good F1 race driver because I have really bad motion sickness.

At 16, I participated in an upward bound program at the University of
Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy. The Urban Pathway Program (UPP) is an eight-week comprehensive academic, experiential, and mentoring summer enrichment program. I received on-the job training as a pharmacy technician at CVS pharmacy. Although I did venture into other academic pursuits such as Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBMS). During the MSBMS program, I decided to apply for pharmacy schools
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
I am pursuing the AMCP Pfizer/BCBS KC Specialized Internship because it aligns perfectly with my career aspirations and academic background. As a fourth-year pharmacy student passionate about public health, research, clinical informatics, and managed care, this internship offers a unique opportunity to delve into these intersecting fields. First, I aimed to optimize health care delivery and outcomes on a larger scale. By working within managed care settings, it provides a platform to understand the intricate dynamics of healthcare systems, insurance coverage, and population health management. This internship presents a chance to gain firsthand experience in implementing strategies to enhance patient care while navigating the complexities of healthcare policy and economics. Moreover, my enthusiasm for research is fueled by a desire to contribute to evidence-based practice and innovation in healthcare. I hope to gain exposure in real-world research projects and initiatives aimed at improving medication access, adherence, and outcomes. I want to be a resource for my family, friends, and patients while serving as a bridge that closes the gap of health disparities in underserved communities.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
I chose this internship to learn the impact pharmacists have from a managed care perspective, populations management, member engagement, and how I can use these to be a better provider.

I consistently lose at poker.

I’m a jake of all trades but being a dancer would be my kryptonite.

My decision to pursue pharmacy school stems from an interest in pharmaceuticals, particularly within the oncology sector. Since childhood, I've been fascinated by the intricate process of developing and bringing new drugs to market, especially those targeted at combating cancer. Having personally witnessed my family's journey through numerous cancer-related trials, I became aware of the vital role pharmacists play in ensuring access to essential medications. This realization fueled my ambition to pursue a career dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes, with a specific focus on oncological care. I am driven by the desire to make a difference in the lives of patients, and I am committed to leveraging my education and expertise to contribute meaningfully to the field of pharmacy.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
I chose the AMCP Foundation/Pfizer Oncology Summer Internship because of my strong interest in oncology and the opportunity to learn how payers and providers operate. This internship will allow me to understand the decision-making processes behind the safety, efficacy, and utilization of oncology medications. I am eager to learn from influential professionals in pharmacy and excited to present at Nexus AMCP in October 2024. This experience will be invaluable for my professional growth and my ability to impact healthcare and specifically oncology.

I have a talent for baking, with cinnamon rolls being my specialty, even though they require quite an arm workout.

My decision to pursue pharmacy school was deeply influenced by my childhood experiences accompanying my grandmother to the pharmacy. Witnessing firsthand the impact of pharmaceutical products on her health outcomes awakened my passion. These formative moments ignited my desire to explore the potential of leveraging pharmaceutical technologies, particularly to address critical disease states to assure patients have access to the pharmaceutical interventions they need.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
This internship aligns with my goal of understanding how pharmaceutical interventions influence health plans. I plan to enhance my data interpretation skills, to make evidence-based decisions and analyze outcome assessments. I was always interested in science and medicine during high school. My high school also offered a research elective, which sparked my interest in pursuing a career where I could apply my interests in a practical and impactful way.
Why did you choose this internship, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?
Since being introduced to managed care and specialty pharmacy during my first year of pharmacy school, I have been extremely interested in how both fields impact each other. I view managed care and specialty pharmacy as sister fields with significant overlap. Understanding both is essential for a comprehensive grasp. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of both fields—something I am very passionate about.
What is your hidden talent?
Fencing! I used to competitively fence and competed in different locations all across the US. I also fenced in Canada once!
At what job would you be terrible?
Veterinarian, I am particularity fond of animals and I don’t think I could emotionally handle seeing so many pets in pain.

What are your plans after pharmacy school?
I am excited to pursue a managed care residency program! There are so many unique facets within the manged care landscape to purse a career in. To help me determine a future career path, I am excited to be a managed care resident to have as much exposure to as many different paths as possible.
