Intern Perspective: Lucy Evans, AMCP Foundation/Pfizer, Inc. Managed Care Summer Intern
This Summer I had the wonderful privilege of working with Humana as an AMCP Foundation/Pfizer, Inc. Managed Care Summer Intern. I am incredibly grateful for the support from everyone involved that made this experience truly unique. This internship gave me insight into the world of managed care and the many opportunities a PharmD graduate can pursue. Through my involvement in various teams and projects, I have gained valuable knowledge that has not only enriched my understanding of managed care but has also guided my professional aspirations.
I am excited to be presenting my final project - Formulary Management: Incorporating a Framework for Health Equity - in poster form at AMCP Nexus 2023! I feel so grateful to be part of the Humana team working on this project and building so many meaningful relationships along the way. I want to give a special thanks to my preceptor, Dr. Heather Wind, for expertly facilitating an amazing experience and going the extra mile to support my personal interests. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Sheetal Sheth and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Health Equity subcommittee for their guidance and support in this project.
At Humana, I felt a warm welcome not only as an intern but also as a colleague and contributing team member. Excellent leadership guided my involvement in various projects including P&T, biosimilars, IRA, health equity, clinical drug review, and much more! My short time with Humana has highlighted the true magnitude and impact working within managed care can have on the broad healthcare landscape and the health of our patients.
I would also like to thank my Pfizer preceptors Dr. Ed Casey and Dr. Jay Pauly for providing me with their unique knowledge and perspectives in our discussions and beyond. Their mentorship has not only broadened my horizon but has also opened doors to experiences aligned with my interests. I would also like to thank everyone at Pfizer who took the time to provide us with an abundance of learning and networking opportunities in the many functional areas of industry.
Last but most certainly not least I want to share my appreciation of Elene Wogedersgne, Ebony Clay, Paula Eichenbrenner and AMCP Foundation for making this internship possible and supporting student journeys in becoming future leaders!
Although I am sad this internship has ended, it has been a fun extraordinary journey that has played a pivotal role in my professional growth and future career. I highly recommend this internship to any PharmD student who is interested in pursuing a nontraditional pharmacy career!
