Abbvie, Genentech, Pfizer and AMCP Foundation Leap to Virtual Internships During Pandemic
Adjusting to realities of COVID-19, AMCP Foundation pivoted this summer to offer virtual internships for eight rising pharmacists with AbbVie, Inc., Genentech Inc., Pfizer Inc., and AMCP Foundation. Through new and innovative programming, the 2020 internships continue the tradition of providing robust and immersive work experiences in diverse managed care pharmacy settings. The virtual concept, in fact, is not entirely new for the internships, as AMCP Foundation has appointed supplemental virtual preceptors to interns for several years.
“We are thrilled to continue these important programs during this difficult time,” says Ebony S. Clay, PMP, senior manager, programs and development at AMCP Foundation. “Working closely with our creative and enthusiastic funding partners, we've created a series of virtual learning activities to give the interns an in-depth background on the roles of pharmacists within health plans, PBMs, and pharmaceutical companies.”
This summer’s activities include Journal Club, AMCP Fundamentals of Managed Care Pharmacy certificate training, conversations with AMCP senior leaders, and presentations from funding partners. Coupled with expert discussion and mentoring from practicing managed care pharmacists at their (virtual) host sites, the interns will gain a robust understanding of managed health care.
Since 1993, nearly 200 student pharmacists have completed our internships which embed future leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, employer groups, and the nonprofit sector.
