Published October 2021
Volunteers are valuable members of the AMCP Foundation family. We are excited to highlight one of those valued members, Debbie Meyer, RPh. Debbie has been a frequent volunteer for the AMCP Foundation/Pfizer Managed Care and most recently for the Pfizer Oncology program.
We recently connected with Debbie to get her thoughts on the value of volunteering.
What interested you in becoming a volunteer for AMCP Foundation?
I wanted to give back and make a difference by supporting the work of AMCP Foundation. Not only was I able to pay it forward but I was able to build wonderful connections within the managed care community and contribute to meaningful initiatives. Volunteering for AMCP Foundation expanded my personal horizons through purpose and passion.
In what area with AMCP Foundation did you volunteer and why?
I volunteered as a preceptor and site host for the managed care AMCP Foundation summer intern program (summer of 2021).
What was your experience with that volunteer opportunity?
I had an overall positive experience that not only broadened my personal network but supported my passion for managed care by supporting the next generation of managed care pharmacists.
What value do you think you gained from that experience?
I find making a positive impact on others is emotionally uplifting and contributes to overall personal development.
Why should someone become a volunteer?
There are so many great reasons to be become a volunteer. For one, it’s a great opportunity to walk a mile with someone and share the work and passions you enjoy. Especially as a preceptor, volunteering is a great way to share your skills, knowledge, and influence. You can look forward to engaging in rich and diverse work while providing connection to communities with the goal to make them a better place.
Is there anything else you would like to provide?
Why not spend time doing what you enjoy and supporting others? What goes around comes around! Life is a journey. Why not choose to volunteer and make a difference.
