Access, Affordability, and Adherence: Addressing Disparities in Medication Use

The symposium's structure, which will include plenary sessions, working breakout discussions, and the active capture of ideas and solutions, aims to provide participants with the opportunity to deliver on:
- A Roadmap that identifies concrete steps that individual stakeholders can implement in the short, medium, and longer terms to reduce disparities in medication use, access, and affordability and;
- Conceptualization of learning networks across stakeholders that will take the recommendations in the Roadmap and collaborate together to make strides in implementing the identified steps.
The program will consist of a pre-symposium webinar and an in-person symposium.

The pre-symposium webinar aims to enhance the effectiveness of the upcoming Research Symposium by establishing a foundational understanding of key concepts and topics. This interactive webinar will include virtual breakout sessions that will help set the stage for a productive, in-person symposium and a way to enhance networking and collaboration ahead of the live symposium itself.
Objectives
- Introduce participants to two frameworks setting the stage for the Research Symposium:
- The Patient’s Medication Access Journey: a conceptual framework focused beyond adherence | Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy (jmcp.org)
- The Pharmacoequity Measurement Framework
- Align key concepts and terminology around healthcare disparities, health equity, and disparities in medication use.
- Share goals for the Research Symposium, including a template for the Roadmap. The template will capture short, medium, and long-term steps that various stakeholders should consider operationalizing within their own organizations or in partnership with other stakeholders.

The Symposium will bring together more than 100 thought leaders, including:
- health services researchers, pharmacoeconomic researchers, and epidemiologists from academic pharmacy and medical institutions;
- subject matter experts in access, clinical quality, and health equity from the payor, health plan, and PBM communities;
- representatives from organizations in the device, cell & gene therapy, vaccine, and prescription digital therapeutic sectors;
- individuals serving in patient advocacy organizations and/or patient assistance support groups;
- employee benefit consultants;
- Federal and state agencies, including invited leaders from AHRQ, CMS, CMMI, and other agencies; and
- individuals from large employers, business coalitions on health, and more.
