Name: Montrell Taylor, PharmD
Current Title: Senior Associate, Market Access and Reimbursement at Avalere Health
Internship: AMCP Foundation/Genentech Evidence For Access
Internship Site: Genentech, Inc
What is your role today and your responsibilities?
I am the senior associate of market access and reimbursement at Avalere Health. My responsibilities include supporting the development of market access strategies through robust analysis of clinical datasets and reimbursement landscapes.
What types of managed care practices do you use in your work?
I analyze reimbursement models across different health care settings and develop strategies to optimize drug coverage and affordability options for clients.
How did the AMCP Foundation internship prepare you for your career?
This internship provided me with an understanding of the pharmaceutical industry. The Genentech/E4A team did an amazing job with getting me involved on various projects including managed care, health policy, and medical affairs. That early exposure is still useful for me today because I rely on these skills to create innovative market access strategies for clients.
What advice do you have for pharmacy students?
Keep your mind open to new opportunities. Stay involved on campus by joining and having a leadership position in organizations such as AMCP. Do not get discouraged if you are denied an internship, keep applying and trying.
What was your experience working on your Capstone research project?
My research project was titled, The Association Between Race and NCCN Adherent Care Among Patients with Stage 3 and 4 Ovarian Cancer and I loved it! I was required to conduct research on treatment guidelines and provide my findings to the team on a weekly basis. I also studied racial disparities in the U.S. health care system to understand the causes of them specifically in ovarian cancer. I worked closely with health economists and data scientists to complete this project. Our findings were presented at AMCP Nexus 2020 and the evidence generated contributed to the growing body of research intended to ameliorate the causes of racial disparities in health care.
